What Makes You Happy?

Professional Services"Success is getting what you want, happiness is wanting what you get." ~ Dave Gardner "The purpose of life is the expansion of happiness." ~ Maharishi Mahesh Yogi "I've learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our dispositions and not on our circumstances." ~ Martha Washington. As human beings, our goal is to find that which makes us happy. We are brought up to believe that happiness lies in achieving things. With this belief in place, we go after careers, possessions, bank balances and soon find out that the joy of getting there is trapped in the ‘doings’ of maintaining the status quo. We get pulled in 40 directions at once by the expectations of others and current responsibilities. Many successful people end up having all the comforts of life and still feel empty, stressed out and alone at the core of their being. What is missing? Not that abundance is wrong. In fact happiness and abundance are closely related. The trouble is we get caught up in chasing after HAVING things. When we do this, the mind takes the Spirit prisoner, and in this state of being, fulfillment is impossible.

The answer lies in going beyond the layers of past beliefs and social training to uncover who you really are as an individual. Happiness comes from identifying your very own unique, individualized and deeply personal values, and then BEING in them as you move through the DOINGS of life.

Values are not something you can pick out of a menu list, such as integrity or honesty or adventure. To one person freedom can mean ‘independence/adventure’, to another it can mean ‘self-expression/outrageous creativity’.

As you gain clarity on your values, they serve as a guidepost on your life journey. Challenging decisions become clearer when they are viewed from your values.

A Life Coach comes from the belief that it is possible to life a fulfilling today, even while you makes plans to change, grow and transition. Mining your personalized values is just one way to tool in a Life Coach’s toolbox.
