BHD requests license to open subsidiary in Panama

Money Matters Santo Domingo.– Dominican Republic's financial group Centro Financiero BHD has asked Panama's banking regulator for an international license to establish a Panamanian subsidiary. According to a document posted on the regulator's website, the new institution would operate under the name of BHD International Bank and as a Panamanian corporation. "We asked permission to open a subsidiary in Panama to make the most of the geographical proximity and to boost Central America's financial integration," said an official from Banco BHD. Banco BHD operates in both the retail and corporate segments in the Dominican Republic, but the parent has not yet decided what segment it will target in Panama, the source said. Centro Financiero BHD was created in 1999 to promote and develop financial institutions in the the Dominican Republic and overseas.
