Unión Fenosa supply tender pre-qual attracts 13

Money Matters By David Casallas (Source - BNamericas.com) Thirteen companies have submitted pre-qualification documents to Spanish power firm Unión Fenosa's Panama office for a power supply tender, a Unión Fenosa spokesperson told BNamericas. The tender is designed to supply Unión Fenosa with 200MW from 2007-20. The companies are the following: Istmus Hydro Power; El Porvenir Power; Hidroeléctrica Los Estrechos; Estrella del Sur; Hidromáquinas de Panamá; Energía y Transmisión; Samba Bonita Power; Saltos del Francoli; Colon Power; AES Panamá; Pedregal Power; Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Fortuna; and Autoridad del Canal de Panamá (the Panama Canal authority), the official said. Unión Fenosa now has two weeks to pre-qualify companies after which pre-qualified companies will be invited to submit offers, the official said. The company aims to open economic offers on September 19. The Spanish firm must submit an evaluation report with its recommendations to Panama's public services regulator ANSP, which will award the contracts. In Panama, Unión Fenosa controls distributors Edemet and Edechi. (Editor's Comment: Read this as Union Fenosa increasing their capacity to supply electricity into the future. They are making money and planning for growth.)
