I have received this from two good friends, Karen Coffee and Cheryl Jackson Klein who live in Gorgona and Corona Beaches. I want to pass this on to you as this probably will be of interest to all of us. It is very close to our community and something more to do. There will be a grand opening of a new "Center for the Arts" that is now opening in SAN CARLOS, which is just ten minutes past Coronado. I have not seen it yet, but it may be something to look at while you are in the area. Maybe if you have a skill that can be provided to others you could inquire about possibly contibuting to their list of courses, classes, making your skills available to others...giving you something other to do then just enjoying retirement. You can see more detailed information by visiting their website at: http://www.fincalamaya.com/index.html Directions: From Panama City, drive southwest on PanAmerican highway ("autopista") for one hour 15 minutes to .8 km past village of San Carlos . Turn RIGHT onto a paved road marked by an enormous white arrow painted on its surface. Pass through the tiny village of "Nance" (town name not indicated anywhere) always bearing to the right. After 3 green houses, watch for the baseball field with hurricane fencing on distant right, then bear (but not turn) to the right to leave the paved street, and make an immediate hard left onto an unpaved road. Here you will see the red and orange Finca La Maya logo on a small circular marker Continue on this bumpy country road to the fork marked by a white cross. Bear left, and at the next fork (at small house), bear right. You will see the red gates to Finca La Maya. (more)

Workshops & Sessions: The Center for the Arts

January - March 2007 About Our Sessions Submit a Course Proposal

The 7,000 sq. ft. structure is set among fruit trees and gardens. The spacious facility will be the center of activity for studio courses, seminars, workshops and special-events for the community. La Maya has plans for separate work studios, a sculpture area, and eventually a 100-seat auditorium as a central gathering place for lectures, performances, film presentations and end-of-session auctions. Future plans also include a library which will hold reference materials, art books and journals. Eventually we also expect to provide an small on- site café with a shop that will provide artists’ supplies, quality books on a multitude of topics, and other items of interest. We are proud to offer our first season of sessions in January 2007 featuring top-quality instruction by internationally known professionals from around the world. Reservations for 2007 will be taken beginning in October 2006 on first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability.
