Where You Going With This, Don? Eventually my friend was making some real money and was able to pay off his debt relatively quickly. He was actually "promoted" to manage other larger and more established Chinese restaurants in town. And I'm talking about egg-rolls because this guy started off in the same location as where the City Grill is now located. I stopped by this evening to meet Mike, who was back in the kitchen up to his elbows in pizza dough, doing the deal. The restaurant business is hard work and Mike's packing them in. He's got a great egg-roll, but in his case he calls them "pizza."
"Maybe Someday I'll Be Able to Advertise" Yeah, maybe. But then again, probably not, because I don't think I would take the money. I mean, I'm sure Bill Gates and Donald Trump work hard all day long, and I wouldn't mind having them as sponsors, but there are times when it makes a whole lot more sense to just help people when they need it most and have faith that things will work themselves out in the end. I know how hard it is to make a go of it, and I've received a whole lot of help and support from people who were once strangers and who I now consider good friends. We're all members of a community here in this little 'burg, and the more I learn about the people who come here from there, the more I'm convinced that I will simply choose to see the shiny side of things and ignore the rest. I no longer have the time or interest to participate in the gossip and rumor mill. I've got more productive things to do with my time. Like...
Tell You About the Great Pizza at the City Grill: There are a couple of spots that are starting to "gel" as gringo habitats. La Terraza, City Grill... And did I mention that they have cold beer on tap? Beer. Cold. It's hot in Panama. You should treat yourself every now and then. Think about it. Beer... (now, you have to say that with a Homer Simpson voice or it loses all effect.)
You get the point, right? So, to sum things up, there's no difference between the perfect eggroll and the perfect pizza, cold beer on tap is a good thing, and it's better to live in peace than survive in war. I've had enough of one and now I'm going for the other. Pizza, I mean.
