Panama Restores Fired Poison Case Chief

Healthcare Panama, Jul 2 (Prensa Latina) Panamanian Social Secure Administration (CSS) Director Rene Luicini returned to his post Monday, after the Supreme Court decided his firing was illegal. The high court left without legal effect "Luicini's dismissal," as well as the prohibition to travel abroad or to report to authorities every fifteen days. The measures were taken against Luicini by Fourth Superior (Special) Prosecutor Dimas Guevara as part of the investigation into the massive poisoning of people who consumed toxic medication mixed with an industrial substance. In May Guevara ordered the preventive arrest of Luciani and his two predecessors Rolando Villalaz and Juan Jovane for alleged responsibility in the deaths of 101 patients who consumed toxic medication made by CSS. The three were subsequently released, but sent home with preventive measures. Guevara's office is investigating 540 possible poisonings, of which 386 have died.
