New (Temporary) Director of Immigration Named
By Alexis Charris Palacios for La Estrella - Panama's Immigration Office has a new director, Clovis Sinisterra, who is a member of the National Crisis Coordination Center of the Security Council. According to a press release, Sinisterra will head the Immigration office until a permanent director is named. The naming of Sinisterra, who was also a Commissioner of the National Police, places Immigraion closer to the Security Council after the departure of Ricardo Vargas, who is now Panama's Ombudsman or Defensor del Pueblo, a human rights watchdog position. La Dirección de Migración tiene un nuevo director, Clovis Sinisterra, quien es miembro del Centro Nacional de Coordinación de Crisis del Consejo de Seguridad, y según un comunicado oficial estará en la institución hasta que se nombre un director permanente. Sinisterra, quien también fue comisionado de la Policía Nacional, permitiría que el Consejo de Seguridad esté más cerca de Migración, tras la salida del ahora defensor Ricardo Vargas.
