Construction Company Liable for Four Workers Deaths

San Francisco 7400, we have concluded that the work, which caused the death of the four workers, was not done with the best engineering practices", affirmed the municipal engineer Jaime Salas yesterday. "Everything established in the manual of engineering practices was not put into practice in the work were the construction workers were killed," he said. He said the ones responsible for the deaths of the workers are the construction company and the contractors. Salas said he does not feel responsible for the accident, because it would be impossible to place an inspector in all of the construction sites around Panama City to ensure that every constructor and contractor is following all established security norms at all times. He said those in charge of this construction project should be investigated by the Public Ministry for potential criminal charges. The construction company can be fined as much as $100,000 for this accident. Editor's Comment: All four of the workers who were buried in the cave-in last week have since died from injuries sustained in this accident.

"LUEGO DE una inspección minuciosa en la construcción del edificio P.H. San Francisco 7400, concluimos que el trabajo, que ocasionó la muerte de los cuatro trabajadores, no se hizo con las mejores prácticas de ingeniería", afirmó ayer el ingeniero municipal, Jaime Salas.
"Todo lo establecido en el manual de prácticas de ingeniería no se puso en práctica en la labor donde perdieron la vida los obreros de la construcción", dijo.
Aseguró que los únicos responsables de lo ocurrido son la empresa constructora y los contratistas.
Salas no se siente responsable por lo ocurrido, pues desde la posición que ocupa no puede colocar un inspector en las 1, 150 construcciones que se desarrollan en la ciudad, para velar que se cumpla con las normas establecidas en materia de seguridad.
Sostuvo que los responsables de esta obra deben ser investigado penalmente por el Ministerio Público.
Efectúan las averiguaciones para determinar el monto de la sanción que se le puede establecer a los responsables, la que puede llegar hasta B/.100 mil.
