Doctors and Government Continue Negotiations

Yesterday they concluded their fifth meeting without discussing the subject of wages. Negotiations reached a stalemate on point number nine which deals with doctors having to punch in and out on a time clock. René Luciani, director of the Office of Social Security said the negotiations stagnated on this point because the doctors asked to have some issues clarified which were not clear to them. Julio Garcia, coordinator of the National Medical Negotiating Commission (Comenenal), upon leaving the meeting, said "we have a better view of the subject, but we think there are some pieces missing in order to have a more concrete proposal to present to the members." The subject of wages has not yet been touched at the negotiation table although they have already been talking for two weeks. Time is becoming the main enemy of the doctors and the best weapon of the government, which is still demanding improvements in health services. The leadership and members of Comenenal are on alert because they feel that efforts to expand the subject of wages is a strategy being used by the government to wear them down. Garcia recognized that the government is intensifying pressure, but the union has gotten stronger "and we will not rise from the table" until we obtain their assignment. Aún no hay visos de tregua en el conflicto entre los médicos y el gobierno.
Ayer concluyó la quinta reunión sin discutir el tema salarial.
La reunión volvió a estancarse en el punto nueve de la lista, que trata sobre la marcación de tarjetas a la entrada y salida de los médicos.
René Luciani, director de la Caja de Seguro Social, asegura que la conversación se ha estancado en este punto, debido a que los médicos han pedido aclarar algunos puntos que no les han quedado claro.
Julio García, coordinador de la Comisión Médica Negociadora Nacional (Comenenal), a su salida de la reunión, aseguró que “tenemos una mejor óptica del asunto, pero piensa que faltan algunas piezas, para tener propuestas más concretas que presentarles a las bases”.
El tema del salario aún no se ha tocado en la mesa, aunque van dos semanas de negociación.
El tiempo se convierte en el principal enemigo de los médicos y la mejor arma del gobierno, que todavía está plantado en mejorar el servicio de salud.
Las dirigencias y las bases de Comenenal están alertas, ya que sienten que la dilatación en el tema salarial es una estrategia para desgastar a los médicos y hacerlos desistir. García advirtió que las presiones del gobierno se intensifican, pero el gremio se ha puesto más fuerte y “no se levantarán de la mesa” hasta que consigan su cometido.
