By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Have you seen this girl? She is the 14 year-old daughter of a woman with ties to the English speaking expatriate community in Panama. Her name is Johana Altagracia Herrera. Born on 26 April 1993, she is currently 14 years old and will turn 15 next month. Her family and friends call her "Manuela" as a nickname. She has been missing since 9:00 am on Monday morning last week, 17 March 2008. She is 5' foot 1" inches tall (1.56 meters), weight approximately 110 lbs, has long straight black hair down to about the middle of her back, and dark brown almost black eyes. She is presumed to have been kidnapped. (more)
Recent Photo: This photo was taken about two weeks ago on a family outing to El Valle. It is a very recent photo. The last time Johana was seen she was wearing a dark green shirt, blue jeans with a gold decorative pattern painted on, with green sneakers. She was wearing a matching necklace and bracelet combination, as well as another sliver colored bracelet.
Older Passport Photo: This is a scan of her passport photo which was taken in August 2006 so it's slightly dated.
Last Seen: On Monday morning 17 March 2008 at approximately 8:30 am Johana walked from her mother's home in a neighborhood called "La Siesta" in Altos del Lago de Tocumen to the corner store. While there she paid to make a phone call from a cellular phone. The store is located only about 400 meters from her home. A neighbor in the area who lives between Johana's house and the store saw Johana walking from her house toward the corner store but did not see her return. At this point it is presumed Johana was kidnapped or abducted from the area near the store.
Ready For School: Johana studies at the American Christian School on Via Espaņa near the San Fernando hospital. She was supposed to leave her house that day at 12:00 noon to catch a bus to school. She attends the afternoon shift at the school. After work her mother went to pick her up at the school and learned that Johana had never arrived. When her mother went back to the house she found the doors to the house closed and locked with the key. Johana's school uniform and books were laid out on her bed like she was expecting to change clothes and go to school. There were no signs of a break-in or struggle at the house. And, there have been no communications of any kind from anyone related to her disappearance.
Missing Persons Report Filed: Johana's family members have file a missing person's report with the DIJ (formerly the PTJ.) They have contacted all of Johana's closest friends and no one has any idea what might have happened to Johana. Police investigators are in the process of researching the telephone numbers dialed using the rented cell phone at the corner store to see who she might have called. Investigators currently suspect she might be in the area of Samaria in San Miguelito.
