Mariano Rivera Picks Up #33

Sports Section

By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - New York Yankees star closer Panamanian Mariano "Sandman" Rivera picked up his 33rd save of the 2008 Major League Baseball season yesterday in the Yankee's 7-4 win over Seattle. Mariano pitched 1.1 innings, threw one strikeout, and further lowered his ERA down to 1.43 on the season. With this save Mariano now has 476 career saves and needs just two more to tie Lee Smith at the #2 spot on the all-time career save list at 478. There's a good chance Mariano will both tie and move past Lee Smith this season - the Yankees have 20 games left to play.
