By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - This year the star closer for the New York Yankees Panamanian Mariano Rivera surpassed Lee Smith to take sole possession of the #2 spot on the all-time career saves list. Sitting at #1 of that same list is the star closer for the San Diego Padres Trevor Hoffman. Hoffman is in the last year of a three year contract with the Padres worth $21 million dollars, and he made $7.5 million this year. Right now Hoffman and the Padres are exploring the possibility of a contract for next year but nothing has been signed so far. This matters to me only because Mariano Rivera currently has 481 career saves and Hoffman has 554, or 73 more than Rivera. If Hoffman would hang up his glove and retire the Rivera could get down to the business of closing the gap and taking over the #1 spot. (more)
Time For A Warm Glass of Milk: It's hard work pitching in the majors. I mean, the guy made more than $21 million dollars in the last three years - he can afford to hang it up and spend some quality time with the family. And besides, he's getting old...
