By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Ricardo Martinelli continues to lead in the polls taken in the 4th week of 2009, according to TVN Noticias. Martinelli is favored by 45.5%, holding steady. Balbina Herrera received 33.7%, a slight increase of about one percentage point. And, Varela dropped from 13% to 10%, probably as a reflection of all of the uncertainty regarding a potential opposition alliance last week. Now that the race has pretty much settled down to a two horse affair (with Endara as an "also ran"), you can expect the results of the weekly polls conducted by Ditcher & Neira for TVN to settle down somewhat and become more clear and focused in the coming weeks. The only potential change would be if Endara decided to join the party and add one more to the doggy-pile. I still see Martinelli winning this election by about 15% points, easy. When the opposition unites, the PRD loses. When the opposition splits the PRD wins. It's really that simple, and the exact same thing has been happening in every election since 1988.
