Martinelli Announces Cabinet Selections

Politics By Carlos Estrada Aguilar for La Critica - Just hours after being proclaimed the President Elect of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli presented some possible members of his new cabinet. Yesterday he revealed some of the names of people who would be working for his administration. He confirmed that lawyer Jaime Alemán, the brother of Panameñista José Miguel Alemán, business partner of Aníbal Galindo, and graduate of Duke University in North Carolina, will occupy the position of Panama's Ambassador in Washington DC. In addition, he said the former lieutenant and former regional manager of Security and Protection for the Panama Ports comany, Gustavo Perez De La Ossa, will be the head of the Panamanian National Police. Perez is a graduate of the Citadel Military College in South Carolina and also has taken anti-terrorism courses from the Defense Forces. For the Security Council the former Director of the PTJ Jaime Abad is being mentioned.

As the Minister of the Panama Canal he would select the lawyer from the firm Morgan and Morgan, Rómulo Roux.

Banker Alberto Vallarino did not say if he would accept a cabinet position, but explained that the makeup of the cabinet is a decision to be made by the new president, while adding the Panameñistas are prepared to designate their best members to collaborate with the change demanded by the country.

GIVING THE CSS ONE MONTH - Martinelli said yesterday, in addition, he would give the Board of Directors of the Social Security Office one month to resolve the problem of long waiting lines for patients having to wait for attention, otherwise, he would call for their resignations.

Horas después de haber sido proclamado Presidente electo de la República, Ricardo Martinelli da a conocer los posibles miembros de su gabinete.

Ricardo Martinelli reveló ayer algunos nombres de personas que podrían conformar su equipo de Gobierno.

Confirmó que el abogado Jaime Alemán, hermano del panameñista José Miguel Alemán y socio de Aníbal Galindo y egresado de la Universidad de Duke, en Carolina del Norte, ocuparía la Embajada de Panamá en Washington.

Además, reiteró que el ex teniente y ex gerente regional de Seguridad y Protección de Panama Ports, Gustavo Pérez De La Ossa será el jefe de la Policía Nacional. Pérez es egresado del Citadel Military College, en Carolina del Sur y luego tomó cursos de antiterrorismo en las Fuerzas de Defensa. Tras la invasión fue separado de la Fuerza Pública.

Para el Consejo de Seguridad se menciona al ex director de la PTJ, Jaime Abad.

Como ministro del Canal seleccionaría al abogado de la firma Morgan y Morgan, Rómulo Roux.

El banquero Alberto Vallarino no definió si aceptaría un cargo dentro del Gabinete, pero explicó que lo del Gabinete es una decisión del nuevo presidente, pero añadió que el Panameñismo está dispuesto a designar a sus mejores cuadros para colaborar con el cambio que reclamó el país.

UN MES A DIRECTIVA DE LA CSS

Martinelli reveló ayer, además, que le concedería un mes a la Junta Directiva del Seguro Social para que resuelva el problema de las filas para la atención de los asegurados, de lo contrario, les pediría la renuncia.

También dijo que eliminaría el requisito de presentar prueba sumaria para interponer denuncias contra altos funcionarios y adelantó que revisaría aspectos de la Bolsa Agropecuaria que sugiere la existencia de un negocito en esa esfera.

El mandatario electo manifestó, además, que la construcción del Metro es prioridad uno de su gobierno y se están desarrollando los estudios y revisando propuestas en torno a ese proyecto.
