Ricardo Martinelli Calls On Foreign Goverments To Stay Out Of Honduras Crisis
By Carlos Estrada Aguilar for La Critica - President Ricardo Martinelli made a call to the political actors in the Honduran crisis asking them to find ways to overcome the crisis through dialog, and he said he does not share the position of former President Manuel Zelaya who made a call requesting the intervention of other foreign governments in the Republic of Honduras. "This action can aggravate the present situation that exists," he said. He made a call for sanity, and said the interests of the people should come before the political or personal interests of any one individual. "It is necessary and urgent to avoid the generation of violence and institutional destabilization," he added. Martinelli reiterated that any intervention, direct or indirect, on the part of any outside government in the internal subjects of the Republic of Honduras would only aggravate the tense situation that exists there, and he called upon the various countries involved in the conflict to assume a position of mediation and not one of interference. On this subject, the former president of the PARLACEN, Julio Palacios, energetically expressed his rejection and condemnation of the military action which he says broke the constitutional order in Honduras. (See Comments) Editor's Comment: I knew it! Ricardo Martinelli would be one of the first Presidents of Latin America to figure it out. While falling short of a full blown recognition of the new (legal and constitutional) government of Honduras, sans Zelaya, Martinelli's call for other nations to stay on the sidelines or to act as mediators is the closest thing yet. His message is clear - let the people of Honduras work this out. The fear is that now Venezuela and Nicaragua will do something completely stupid like launch some kind of a military action across the border into Honduras under the (bullshit) banner of "restoring constitutional order" or something similar. Personally, I really don't think they would be stupid enough to try it, and I also don't think they possess the military capability to actually achieve anything more than a token gesture anyway. But if they do something so stupid then I'll be on the next thing smoking to Tegucigalpa. I would still like to see Ricardo Martinelli take one step further and to openly and publicly recognize the new government of Honduras (with one breath) while calling for quick elections with the other. And the question remains - where the hell is Obama? Clinton? US State Department? Hey, just now much cocaine is Hugo Chavez running through Cuba every year, anyway? If I could ask Obama one question, it would be WTF?

Manuel Zelaya.
