By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - This morning Mike Perham, the 17 year-old vying to become the youngest person to ever have sailed around the world alone, was invited to meet with H.E. Richard Austen, Her Majesty’s Ambassador at Panama City, in the offices of the British Embassy in Marbella. Accompanied by Tatiana Nazarova and Dr. Monte Friesner of the Panama Sailing School, Mike met at length with Ambassador Austen and David Andrews, the Consul of the British Embassy in Panama. They spoke about Mike's voyage thus far, his planned route once he clears the Panama Canal, the repairs being accomplished on his boat the TotallyMoney.com, among other things. Recognizing the potential for growing media interest in Mike's trip once he gets closer to completing his voyage and returning home, Mr. Andrews joked about the possibility of coordinating with the Royal Navy to have someone come out to escort Mike once he gets closer to home. Mike just said "I expect we'll have a really big party" once the trip is over. In describing some of the most memorable moments of this voyage, Mike described the 60 knot winds and 50' (plus) seas of the South Pacific, and how he was literally able to outrun the waves in his boat at times. The part needed to fix Mike's boat was finally delivered this morning, and right now it looks like he might be making his transit through the Panama Canal on Friday, 17 July 2009.
