The Amazing Mariano Rivera - Three Saves in Three Days

Sports Section By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Mariano Rivera is on pace to have one of the best seasons of his career. After coming off of the All Start break, where he set another record as being the only pitcher in history to have saved four All Star games, Rivera racked up three more saves in three consecutive days on July 17, 18, and 19 against Detroit. He now has 26 saves this season and 508 for this career, still 67 behind all-time leader Trevor Hoffman. Rivera averaged 39.75 saves per season from 1997 through 2008 and he's on a pace to break his own personal best of 53 saves in a single season which he did in 2004. And this might sound obvious but Mariano Rivera racks up more saves in seasons when the NY Yankees are winning more games and they are doing pretty good this year, just one game behind the Boston Red Sox at this point in the season. Even more incredible is that Mariano Rivera now has the second-most saves this season at 26, just two behind league leader Brian Fuentes of the Los Angels Angels with 28.
