New Curfew Goes Into Effect Today

Law & Lawyers By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Keep an eye on junior! Starting today, Monday, 27 July 2009, at 9:00 pm, the new curfew dictated by the Ministry of Government and Justice goes into effect. The new rules apply to all "children who are on the streets, sidewalks, roads, or avenues" and they cannot be out alone or without a responsible parent, guardian, or adult. By "minor" this means anyone under the age of 18. The curfew will be in effect from 9:00 pm until 6:00 am from Sunday through Thursday. On the weekends, on Friday and Saturday night the hours are from 10:00 pm until 6:00 am. Any children who are caught out on the streets alone during the hours of curfew will be apprehended by the police and taken to a special Juvenile Hall where they will be held in custody until they are claimed by their relatives. The father or mother, legal representative, guardian, or responsible adult of a minor who has been arrested will be fined $50.00. This fine will be doubled for the second and each subsequent arrest. Note - they just can't be out alone. If you are with them, it's no problem.
