A Second Night Of Arrests In New Curfew Law

Law & LawyersBy DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Last night the National Police around the country continued to enforce the newly enacted curfew which keeps unaccompanied minors off the streets between the hours of 9:00 pm and 6:00 am during weekdays, and from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am on Friday and Saturday night. On Monday night they rounded up 86 minors around the country, and the most interesting part is that of those, the parents of six never showed up to claim them. They were first taken to a special Judge of Children and Adolescents, and then they were taken by governmental authorities to temporary shelters where they will continue to be held until their parents show up. On Monday night it was "easy pickin's" for the police because most of the minors didn't know what was coming. Last night was a whole different story, and although the kids were still out there, they were smart enough to run, hide, and not get caught and hauled in. So now it's late night cat and mouse games between the police and the street kids. Who knows, maybe it will have some effect on crime.
