Now THIS Is A Great Reason To Move to Panama

Food & Drink By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - I just received this link from a reader. There's a website called pintprice.com where they actually spend all of their time keeping track of how much beer costs all over the world. It turns out Panama is the best place on the planet to drink beer. They list Panama at .30 Euros which means about 50 cents a beer, and that's about right. Try to get a beer for 50 cents on a Friday night in Washington DC, for example. Man, just the price of beer alone is enough to entice your average biker to forget all about the deserts of the American Southwest and move down here. And you can drink those while swinging in a hammock strung between two palm trees, eat fried fish and patacones for $1.25, it's enough to make anyone drop their snow shovel and head straight for their local travel agent. And, there's cheap beer. What more could you want? Thanks for the heads up, John...

Wow slow news day. This is not a vary accurate sight as it just uses a visitors average. Where in Panama can you go to a bar and get a $.50 beer? This site is meant to show the bar price of a pint not what you pay at a retail outlet.

well no, maybe not 50 cent beers in the city.... but haven't you spent any time in the interior or at the beach away from the main tourist areas? 50 cent beers are common from bars there, and the cheaper they are the sweeter they taste :)

Roaming around Pedasi for some fishing about 6 months ago, gave the bar tender 2 bucks for 2 beers and got a buck in change back with a funny look on his face. That is when I realized that I need to get out of city more. This morning at PriceMart .... Atlas at 39.54 cents a can. God, I love this country .... Herb Clifton

All,

I found that the "pintprice" beersite has become popular over the last 24 hours. Dutch newspapers had taken a snapshot with Panamá listed as #1 (i.e. cheapest)., which triggered my relatives. Since their measurment methods are based on input from readers (near real time), Panamá has in the last hours been beaten by Central African countries such as Congo.... Don´t pack your bags. Panamá is still better then Congo !!

Best regards,
John

Why bring it up? Hush please.

Now that he knows that Panama is blessed with the cheapest beer in the world, I am afraid that our ultra conservative Opus Dei Gringo Mayor Bosco Bailarino is gonna put a heavy tax on beer with the aim to eradicate alcoholism in his city. That will be the end of paradise as I know and like it. That self-righteous moralistic overweight hypocrit just closed down a massage parlor, climing that it was in fact a brothel (really). Don´t you understand that he wants to change Panama into a dry-no-sex-zone just like bible-belt redneck country where he comes from??? Beurk...

I love how everyone talks about how cheap beer is in Panama but neglects to mention an important caveat. Sure, you can buy a can of domestic beer for 50 cents at the supermarket (not bars), but you might as well piss in a cup and let it ferment in your back yard - the taste is about the same. You get what you pay for.

I buy a crate of Atlas or Panama for $0.36 a bottle. You forgot to mention that if you drink and smoke you are even better off. Cigarettes bought at the frontera are $2.25 per carton. That's 22 cents a pack. Try and beat that anywhere else in the world.
