3.8 on Richter Scale near Puerto Armuelles at 6:32 pm Yesterday

EarthquakesAn earthquake of 3.8 degrees on the Richter scale struck at 6:32 pm near the border region between Panama and Costa Rica. The National System of Civil Protection reported the event was felt mainly in Puerto Armuelles and banana producing zone in the district of Baru, without causing any harm. According to reports from the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama (UP) a total of twelve earthquakes have already occurred in the border area between Panama and Costa Rica, all of them in January 2010. The strongest of these measured 5.2 degrees on the Richter scale occurring on 23 January, with an aftershock of 4.7 degrees on January 24, being the most recent earthquake. There were also earthquakes of 4.7 degrees on 14 and 19 January. (Source: Panama America)
