Not Even Safe In Their Own Homes

Crime & Punishment Another victim falls to the criminals. Daniel Alberto Carrizo, 19, was washing his car in the parking lot in front of his house when he as jumped by four young men bearing firearms. The criminals took Daniel through the door of the laundry and subsequently entered the house, where there were five more members of the family. All had their hands tied and they were thrown to the floor. This assault occurred at 8:30 pm on Monday evening in Hato Pintado, when all of the members of this family had returned from their jobs and college. Two of the criminals went upstairs and started filling bags with the property they intended to steal. The other two were guarding the hostages, to whom they said they would not do anything. Within minutes, officers of the National Police arrived at the house. Upon arriving and seeing the water running from the hose and the doors hanging open they decided to enter. That was when one of the robbers saw the policemen and there was an exchange of fire, in which Daniel was shot in the head. Two of the criminals were shot in the legs. One is Gil Ernesto Gonzalez, 19, and the other is a 16 year old minor. Both had 9mm handguns. The other two are fugitives. Max Lopez, a close family friend, asks that justice be done and they do not want what happened in this household to happen to another family, it is a very painful loss. Alejandro, David's brother, who still had the marks on his wrists from where he was tied up, described Daniel as an obedient young man who was studying marketing at the USMA, attended church and helped his father at work. The young man's funeral will be tomorrow at 11:00 am Christian House of Prayer in Santa Elena. (Source: Dia a Dia)

I have a penthouse there...and my family...I always worry about my son's safety....My heart goes out to these unfortunate people...We learn....lock the gate....it is sad...but a reflection of the bad boys cruising for an opportunity. We have too many have-nots with wheels and weapons. I am not a fan of teenager malditos are protected. You do the crime...you do the time......regardless of you age.

We used to live in this same neighborhood. It is a more upscale area than everything else that surrounds it. Therefore it is close to the have-nots who have no problem trying to take your stuff. The residents pay for a police officer to stand guard at night but after a few hours they usually lay down behind the entrance sign and sleep. Every now and then we would get a good one who would stand his post and some would even stop vehicles entering the neighborhood and make sure they should be there.

It appears that this happened during the day or early evening and the only thing to deter crime at that time is that there is only one entrance/exit and traffic is grid lock on the main road during the day.

Until the Police due their basic due diligence, get off their butts and start patrolling like they use too nothing will change! The Police spent more time driving around and doing nothing!

In my Neighborhood of Panama City, considered a middle class neighborhood!

Every store and Fonda within the last three weeks has been robbed!
The owners and customers where whipped, tied up, and robbed also!
There has been over fifty burglaries and over thirty personal assaults and robberies in the last four months!
Two personal assaults on women last week alone right down the street!

All this in middle class neighborhood of Panama city!

The so called police used to walk the streets here and in other neighborhoods last year!

Now you are lucky to see them drive by three or four to a car once a week now! The Local large La Guardia(police station is only a two miles away!

These criminal acts are now being orchestrated by the Drug cartels and the major gangs from mainly Mexico. Gangs like MS13 are now tagging all the neighborhoods here in Panama City and the rest of Panama, killing and fighting for territory !

When will the Panamanian government wake up to this?

Panama is just like Mexico fifteen years ago! All this is already documented, the Cartels and the Gangs are using the same model they used in the rest of Central America to take over! Panama is truly now a very unsafe place to live!
