Serial Killers Holbert and Reese Escaped From The US On A Cruise Ship in February 2006

Expat Tales By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Remember the information about William Dathan Holbert and Laura Michelle Reese from the America's Most Wanted profile? The last time they had any contact with law enforcement officers in the United States was on 6 February 2006 in Wyoming, when a patrolman pulled them over and tried to arrest them for driving a Jeep that had been stolen from West Virginia. They managed to get away, however in the process they crashed the stolen Jeep and escaped on foot. The next day Holbert and Reese stole a 14' U-Haul van in Bismark, North Dakota. Then about a month later police discovered that same U-Haul truck abandoned in West Palm Beach, Florida. Why West Palm Beach, Florida? I now know the answer. Holbert and Reese hopped on a cruise ship and sailed away to Costa Rica. The area of Puerto Viejo is close to Limon, Costa Rica, a popular cruise ship destination. Apparently Holbert and Reese disembarked from the cruise ship in mid February 2006, and simply stayed in Costa Rica when the ship sailed. It now looks like Jeffery A. Kline was their first "big score" overseas. And all of Holbert's talk about having been in Mexico, Belize and the Cayman Islands? There are several cruise ships that stop at these ports before arriving in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica. (more)

Too Hot In The United States: When the highway patrolman pulled Holbert over for a routine traffic stop in Wyoming, and his fake license came up as an alias he was using, Holbert apparently realized things had gotten too hot for them in the United States. He developed this exit strategy of using a cruise ship. They needed a vehicle so what's the easy and obvious choice for a serial killer on the run? Why, stealing a U-Haul of course.

Driving Time - Bismarck to West Palm Beach: Holbert and Reese probably spent just one very cold night on foot as they escaped Wyoming and made their way to Bismarck, North Dakota. Heading South to a warmer clime probably sounded pretty good right about then, and Costa Rica probably sounded like paradise. According to the trip planner, Bismarck is 2,135 miles from West Palm Beach. Non-stop at 70 miles per hour, you can do that in 30.5 hours. We know they stole the U-Haul on 7 February 2006, and the company reported it stolen the next day. Holbert and Reese could easily have been in West Palm Beach as early as the weekend of 11-12 Feb 2006. Cruise ships tend to sail on weekends, so that would check. Four or five days later and they are in Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

No Trail In Other Countries: One of the biggest problems in investigating this case is that most of the time, William Dathan Holbert was lying to the people he was talking to. One witness told me Holbert said he had spent a month in Belize. Several witnesses have made references to him saying he was in the Cayman Islands at some point. Dozens of people have told me how Holbert told them about the years he spent living in Mexico. Well, all of that was most likely just lies. I think the truth is Holbert and Reese jumped on a cruise ship in order to escape from the United States, and the ship stopped in Mexico, Belize, and the Cayman Islands before reaching Limon, Costa Rica. I still don't know exactly what ship they were on and it's itinerary, but eventually I will be able to dig that out, no doubt.

Renting A House in San Jose: I know once Holbert and Reese jumped ship in Limon, Costa Rica they first rented a house in downtown San Jose. From there they moved to Puerto Viejo. And once again, the details provided in earlier stories get all "mucked up" because Holbert was lying about their activities and movements to other sources of information. He lies to people, they have no reason to think otherwise, so it gets reported to me as fact. It's only when I get a chance to verify the facts later that the truth comes out. And, obviously, a lying serial killer has had a chance to lay down some considerable smoke screens, which also makes sense. In any case, what matters most is that the truth is slowly but surely materializing.

Kline Was Probably First Costa Rica Victim: There is a possibility Holbert might have killed someone in San Jose, Costa Rica. He has a habit of killing people and then moving on quickly. They rented a house in San Jose for a couple of weeks before they moved into that rented bedroom near Punta Uva, so who knows if he had the time or opportunity to kill someone while he was there. At this point it looks like Kline might have been their first victim in Costa Rica.

Kline Flew In On 7 March 2006: I already know Jeffery A. Kline arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica on Tuesday, 7 March 2006. And, my "motor scooter source" told me he and Holbert drove to San Jose to pick up the Kawasaki Wind motorcycles and they met Kline in the bar of the Best Western hotel where he was staying. My source was a little fuzzy on the dates, so he had me contact Oscar Avila, the Sales Manager of "Toto Motor S.A." in San Jose, Costa Rica, the Kawasaki dealer where he bought the bikes. Oscar pulled the records from that transaction and confirmed the delivery of those two motorcycles to the source on Thursday, 9 March 2006. Therefore, the source, Holbert, and Kline all drove back to Puerto Viejo the next morning, 10 March 2006. From there, the details are all laid out in this article. Jeff Kline just got unbelievably unlucky to run into a newly arrived serial killer, two days after he fled the United States to "start over." Talk about a combination of really bad luck, incredibly bad timing, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and one seriously massive dose of bad Karma. Most importantly, the timeline for these events is becoming clearer, the dates are lining up nicely, and I have been able to confirm more and more details as time goes on. I expect this trend to continue as the true details emerge and Holbert's lies are identified and uncovered. And from here, it's off to Jaco, Costa Rica, the next stop on the Holbert-Reese nightmare tour.

Are not passports checked prior to boarding cruise ships? Can you actually just show up and get a ticket on a cruise ship? Be interesting to get the passenger manifest from that ship (if found) and bounce with someone missing after they were on a cruise. May be two more dead people in Florida?
