Hauls Ass for Costa Rica: When the noose started tightening against him here in Panama, Ornstein ran across the border to Costa Rica where he is now hiding. Lawyers for the myriad of his victims are now working to ensure the arrest warrants against him are reflected in both the computers of the National Immigration Service as well as the handheld "Pele Police" units of the National Police. That way, if Ornstein tries to cross back into Panama he will be arrested at the border by Immigration agents, or if he sneaks back across illegally (like Holbert did,) Ornstein will show up in the Pele Police thing if he ever gets screened at a police checkpoint. And whoever puts him up knowingly will be subject to charges for harboring a fugitive as well.
The Bottom Line: Ornstein is now living on the run from the Panamanian justice system. He will predictably snarl and complain about their authority and the supposed illegitimacy of their ability to tell him what he can and cannot do. However, the fact of the matter remains - Ornstein does not have the guts to stand and defend his actions. In fact Ornstein knows that what he did was wrong, that he's broken the law, that he's guilty, and he's simply afraid of going to prison. So, he ran. Sweating and shaking, on the run. Good riddance. I suspect he will eventually end up in Ecuador with his buddy Leslie Aldredge. That's if he's smart, anyway.
The Hunt Is Still On: Right now Panamanian prosecutors are putting Ornstein into the Interpol system as a fugitive who is wanted in Panama. His ability to move internationally will be greatly restricted from here on out. As time goes forward the cases against him will proceed, and he will be tried and convicted in absentia. Hey, maybe Ornstein can use Holbert's contact to buy one of those nifty fake Dutch Caribbean passports on the Internet. And course Ornstein will keep coming back on the Internet like a bad burrito - until he's eventually caught and locked up, anyway. Sooner or later, that's how this story ends. Okke Ornstein is now completely and totally irrelevant. As it should be.
