Wow, What A Great Book ... "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo"

Books & Reading By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - I just finished Stieg Larsson's "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" on my Kindle, and I have to say the book turned out to be fantastic - a really unexpected surprise. I only bought it because it was on the top of the New York Times bestseller list. When I got it, I was fully prepared to try the first few chapters and bail out if it sucked. Well, it started off pretty good, picked up speed, and then turned out to be one of the best books I've read in a very long time - real page-turner. Of course I just downloaded the second book in Larsson's series - "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and I can't wait to get started on that. Good stuff. Anyway, if you're in Panama and you like to read, you really should consider getting yourself a Kindle or one of the other eBook readers that are available out there. Not having access to a great English language bookstore, library, and reading material was one of the last major downsides (for me) to living in the Republic of Panama. Now, with my beloved Kindle - that's a thing of the past. Can you tell I'm having fun?

Hi Don,

Check out Free Book Spot and Calibre ebook management. Free Book has a ton of stuff including the Larsson books and Calibre will convert them to the correct format for whatever ebook reader a person has. The free book sight charged $9 for a month of downloads. Calibre also let a friend give me over 300 books that he had downloaded for his Barnes & Noble reeder and converted to my Kindle
format? All seems like magic to me..

Mention also the choice of about 88 daily newspapers from the USA as well as a dozen others from abroad, with subscriptions dfelivered automatically at 4am if you're near WiFi. Or you can by them by the day for 49 cents apiece. Kindle is excellent.

As a four year veteran of living in Bocas, I feel I can tell Kindle users that in a couple of days a Kindle book called "A Year of Travel Blogs, 2010 in Words and Pictures" will be available on Amazon for the Kindle. Price $1.99. It covers a year of travels starting in Panama, moving onto the UAE, Thailand, Nepal, Lebanon, and Egypt.
It is about 275 pages, with a lot of photos. I of course am the author, Forrest Walker.

The Millennium trilogy, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest” are excellent books by Stieg Larsson (now deceased) a Swedish writer. The books were published after his death however; it is said that he left an outline for a 4th book in the series with a plan for at least 10 Millennium books. A fourth book is currently in and out of discussion due to an unfriendly relationship between Mr. Larsson’s girlfriend and his family (father and brother). No one knows if it will ever get published.

Sounds like you enjoyed the book as much as I have enjoyed all three. I have not read a series of good and exciting books like these in quite awhile.

The 1st two books have been filmed and available on DVD (Swedish w/English subtitles). The 3rd film (Hornet’s Nest has just come out). I liked the films but not as much as the books!

An American director has filmed a U.S. version of the 1st book due out sometime this year I think.
