Contributed by: Don Winner#Panama - In a WBA-mandated rematch, Celestino Caballero (35-4, 23 KOs) of Panama won the WBA featherweight championship by way of unanimous decision over now former champion Jonathan Victor Barros (33-2-1, 18 KOs) on Friday night at the famous Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Caballero erased all controversy from the first fight that he lost by split decision and completely dominated this fight from beginning to end. Caballero almost was able to get Barros out of there in round 11 but Barros survived the round. The official scores were 116-111, 118-111, 116-112 all in favor of Caballero, who previously was a unified champion at 122. (fightnews.com)
Editor's Comment: I watched this fight last night, and the Panamanian Caballero was clearly the better fighter. Right now Panama has three reigning world boxing champions. Guillermo Jones is the current WBA Cruiserweight, Junior heavyweight (200 lb, 90.7 kg) Champion. After last night's fight - Celestino Caballero is now the WBA Featherweight (126 lb, 57.2 kg) Champion. Finally, Anselmo Moreno is the WBA "Super champion in recess" of the Bantamweight (118 lb, 53.5 kg) class. He recently signed a four fight deal, so he's going to be coming out of recess, apparently. They take their boxing very seriously here in Panama, and the fact that Celestino Caballero was able to take his belt back from Barros in his home turf in Buenos Aires, Argentina is important.
