#Panama - The director of the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc), Arturo Alvarado, told La Prensa that two construction workers who were performing some repairs on a building under construction in Punta Pacifica were rescued by personnel from the institution. The rescue took place at about 1:30 pm this afternoon, after they were hanging from the Oasis building for about an hour, said Alvarado. "The vertical rescue was very risky, so we decided to open a hole in the wall of the 25th floor, which had no window. They tied off using special ropes, and pulled them through the hole, which was about ten feet from them," he said. Alvarado said the two workers were taken to a hospital to be checked over. The accident occurred when the scaffolding the workers were using to apply stucco to a wall fell when a rope holding it in place broke. Both the SINAPROC and Fire Department arrived at the scene.
