Preliminary Hearing In Dario Fernández Murder Case Held This Morning

Crime & Punishment#Panama - At 10:30 am this Tuesday morning began the preliminary hearing for the murder of the former governor and journalist Dario Fernández. The suspect involved in the murder of Fernández arrived just after 10:00 am at the facilities of the Accusatory Criminal System in Llano Marín of Penonomé, in the province of Coclé. It is anticipated that a "judge of guarantees" will determine if the continued detention of the suspect in the murder of Fernández is legal or not. Fernández was the Governor of Cocle during the administrations of Martin Torrijos and Ernesto Perez Balladares. (Prensa)

Editor's Comment: Panama is in the process of switching over to this new "Accusatory Criminal System" and the province of Cocle now falls under that new system. This system is very similar to that used in the United States, and this would be the same as a preliminary hearing before a judge during which the prosecutor will present the evidence used to make the arrest, and the judge will determine if the suspect will stay in jail, be set free on bail, or what have you. It's incredibly fast compared to the system that has been used in Panama for decades. My question - who are the suspects. Two were arrested, but this article just talks about one.
