No Water in Panama City This Weekend - Work On Metro Subway System Continues

Infrastructure Upgrades #Panama - By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - This afternoon IDAAN announced through a press release that water service to Panama City will be turned off for 24 hours, starting at 6:00 am on Saturday, 19 November 2011. They continue work to move the 54" pipe required as part of the construction of the new Metro subway system. The work is being conducted near the Los Andes shopping mall. Water to most of Panama City will be off until Sunday morning, 20 November 2011, at 6:00 am. Water supply to neighborhoods at higher elevations should be restored by noon on Sunday. The affected areas are Bella Vista, Betania, San Francisco, Pueblo Nuevo, Río Abajo, Juan Díaz and the district of San Miguelito. Anyone who gets their drinking water from the Miraflores water treatment plant will still have water and will not be affected by this work. The "Linea Uno" consortium will be responsible for the work through a subcontractor and the IDAAN will be responsible for closing the valves and supervising the work. IDAAN advises people to stock water supplies in bottles, and to plan ahead for the most urgent water needs for this weekend. IDAAN will supply water in tanker trucks to hospitals and health centers affected by the suspension of service.
