Levels of Turbidity Falling, Water Production Increases

Infrastructure UpgradesThe Minister of the Panama Canal Romulo Roux said the levels of turbidity in the raw source water being taken from Lake Alajuela to supply the water treatment plant in Chilibre started to drop last night, falling 2 NTU, and the distribution and storage tanks in Tinajita are almost full. However, the official clarified the advice given by the Ministry of Health not to consume the water should remain in place until further notice. Roux announced he has signed an agreement with the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) to formally put them in charge of the control and management of the water treatment plant in Chilibre. He said the ACP will charge for the fees and services provided, but they will also be training IDAAN employees. This agreement must go through an approval with the Board of Directors of the Panama Canal Authority. He clarified that his function is to make sure the Bitwater company complies with their responsibility to make repairs at the new water treatment plant, and he stressed that the Government will not accept the work until it works in good condition as stated in the contract.
