Local District Level Representatives March, Protesting Against A Lack Of Funding

PoliticsHundreds of local district level representatives from the opposition Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD), Panameñista, Molirena, and independent political parties held a protest this afternoon, Wednesday, Jan. 8, over a lack of fairness in the distribution of circuit funds. The march began at the National Assembly and went to the Comptroller General's office on Avenida Balboa. According to the representative of the Association of Municipalities of Panama, Joaquin Vasquez, the Social Development Programme (Prodeso) gives $100,000 to representatives from the ruling Democratic Change political party (CD), while the rest of the representatives who do not belong to that political party have their projects "shelved." Similarly, they say the projects of the Community Development Programme (PRODEC) have not been executed in the past three years. Jose Herrera, president of the Association of Municipalities of Panama, said they feel solidarity with the feelings of the Ngäbe Bugle and they expect the government to comply wit the agreement signed yesterday, because "they believe in the word of the current government." He also said they have submitted a claim to the Comptroller General of the Republic, asking her to suspend the Social Development Program (Prodeso).

Editor's Comment: If you're in the "right" party (CD), you get funding and can do projects in your community. If you're in the "wrong" party (PRD or Panameñista) then you get squat.

What a fracaso! Every disgrunted group is rumbling and using the situation for one reason or another. The teachers, the banana workers, the union, all political parties alike, are posing and positioning for the camera. Just sickening!
Oh and by the way, do the PRD own Telemetro? It sure does looks like it!
Welcome to Panama.

Imagine, Bocas with the majority of it's population, indigenous. Remember, these people are an emerging population of hunter-gatherers. Hunting and gathering is no longer an option. They have been forced into modern society where they are on the bottom of the ladder for jobs. Large youth population that are unemployed, and idle. No wonder they have what it takes to protest their woes.
Chiquita has been known to move their operations in and out of different regions as the business climate become more or less welcome. Chiquita is staying quiet in the background but there is always the rumble that with all of the uprising, they might be thinking to fold up the operations in Bocas.
But this round of protest has for me beenthe biggest shocker of all.
Martinelli, is really taking a hard hit from the disgruntled and politically ambitious of the country.
Yeh, and get that Molino guy to explain himself...and his lies!?!....how humiliating ! I am aghast! dump him.!..
There is nothing worse than a liar.
I know your panama-guide is not a shoulder to cry on, but thanks for hearing me anyhow,
Disgusted in,
