Panama - US Free Trade Agreement Will Be Implemented on 1 October 2012
Minister of Trade and Industry, Ricardo Quijano said this May Panama will give the necessary documentation to the US so the Free Trade Agreement can enter into force on 1 October 2012. "A team from Panama will visit Washington for meetings today, Wednesday and Thursday with U.S. authorities. The information was sent in English, to avoid delays in the translation," the official said. He said by 31 August 2012 the documentation should be ready so that on 1 October 2012 the Free Trade Agreement can become effective, and items can be imported or exported under the new rules.
Barro Blanco Project: Quijano said dialog should prevail. "There is no justification for protests by the indigenous groups against the Barro Blanco project, because the negotiation table consisting of the Indian Coordinator, the Public Services Authority (ASEP) and project managers is working," he said. Minister Quijano said his perception is that they are progressing and he expects the talks to close soon. (Panama America)
