End of May 2012 Website Traffic Report - Up 39.2%

FeedbackBy DON WINNER for - Traffic to the website has been very good so far this year. This month in May 2012 we saw a 39.2% increase compared to May 2011. You can easily see the unusual spikes in traffic during February and April 2012. In February the CBS 48 Hours Program Dark Side of Paradise aired, about the murders of Don North and Jean Pierre Bouhard at the hands of Javier Martin. And then in April 2012 I broke the story about Adrian Vasquez and his two companions on the 26 foot long panga - the "Fifty Cent" - who were spotted by three birdwatchers on a cruise ship and left to die. That story got picked up internationally, and it generated some additional traffic to the website. So, traffic during both March and May 2012 benefited from the lingering effects of the increased international exposure in the mainstream media outlets, particularly in the United States and Europe. This tends to be a "sticky" website - meaning once people find it, they tend to come back often if they have anything to do with Panama. Panama Guide is now far and away the biggest and most respected source of English language news in the Republic of Panama, no one else even comes close. The more time I spend doing this job, the less I spend pouring over website stats and numbers. But a 39.2% growth rate year-on-year is excellent by any standard, and it's good news for my advertisers. I use this SiteMeter "Gold Chart" just because it's visually appealing. According to AWStats this month we saw 96,901 unique visitors, had 218,951 visits to the website, and delivered more than 2.8 million pages to our readers.
