Former President Being Questioned By Prosecutor
La Estrella has information - as yet unconfirmed - indicating former president Ernesto Perez Balladares is currently in the offices of the Fourth Municipal Prosecutor's Office of Panama City, giving a preliminary statement. Balladares went to the prosecutor's office in response to a complaint filed by Manuel de la Hoz, for the alleged disclosure of the contents of an audio recording and the video of a conversation. On 4 June 2012 the former President was scheduled to make a sworn statement, but the procedure was suspended due to medical disability presented by one of his lawyers (Luis Carlos Cabezas). The inquiry of the former president was ordered in 2011, but it could not be performed because of the filing of a writ of Amparo of Constitutional Guarantees that first had to be resolved by the 17th Civil Court, that had decided to revoke the order of the 4th Prosecutor, but then later the First Superior Tribunal overrode the decision of the 17th Civil Court, which now makes the questioning possible.
