Blandon Says Presidential Veto Was Politically Motivated
The National Assembly Deputy form the Panameņista political party Joseph I. Blandon regretted that the President, Ricardo Martinelli, has vetoed Bill 416, which would have created a Ministry of Culture. According to Blandon this veto was a miserable performance by the President because there is no legal or constitutional basis for rejecting it. He said this project was discussed and it even had the approval of representatives of the Executive Branch, such as the director of the INAC, Maruja Herrera. "It seems this veto was politically motivated, but it's sad cultural groups and artists will have to wait for their law," he said. President Ricardo Martinelli vetoed the bill saying it was "unconstitutional and undesirable." (Critica)
