Panama Beat Cuba 1-0, Now On Top Of Group C in FIFA Qualifying
By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - The Panamanian men's national soccer team beat Cuba 1-0 tonight at the Rommel Fernandez stadium. This was the second game of the third round of CONCACAF qualifying to earn a spot at the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil. With this win Panama now has six points and sits alone on top of Group C, undefeated.
Tonight Canada and Honduras played to a 0-0 tie, a result which puts Canada in second place with four points. Honduras is in third with one point, and Cuba is last with no points and two losses.
Panama showed they were the much better team, and they should have scored about two more goals than they did during the game, but at the same time they got away with a couple of mistakes that could have been very costly. It felt like they were laying off during the whole first half and they didn't wake up until after the break. Striker Blas Perez was injured at the end of the first half and was taken to the Paitilla hospital in Panama City to have his right knee examined. He will have some time to recover. Panama's next game is on 7 September 2012 against Canada, on the road in Toronto. On that same day Honduras will travel to Havana to face Cuba.
