Cortes Denies That Labor Union Leaders Walked Out During Martinelli's Speech

Panama NewsThe Minister of Labor and Workforce Development, Alma Cortez, said the speech by President of the Republic, Ricardo Martinelli, at the 101st Conference of the International Labor Organization (ILO) was well attended. According to the Minister, the lack of attendance by representatives of workers from around the world came about because, for the first time, there was no list of countries to review for complaints arising from possible violations of freedom of association or other labor conflicts. "That not only happened to Martinelli, but to all," said Cortez. She denied that during the speech given by President of the Republic, Ricardo Martinelli, at the 101st Conference of the International Labor Organization (ILO) he received some rudeness on the part of workers. Cortes asked the media not to echo this information, which she says is false. The minister said she regrets and is concerned about the statements made by the union leaders. Union leaders attending the assembly reportedly left the room in protest, and were supposedly supported by workers from other countries, however the Labor Minister Alma Cortez denied this version.
