Counterfeit Goods Seized By Customs Incinerated

Crime & PunishmentIn Colon about 400 bundles of counterfeit merchandise was destroyed, related to cases and investigations that have been closed, and the court has ordered its destruction. According to the Intellectual Property Prosecutor Nayra Fernandez Ruiz, the destruction was done in an incinerator in Colon, located in the area of Monte Esperanza. The products were seized through cases managed by Customs authorities, and others in warehouses where raids have been conducted. Among the products destroyed in the incinerator were dress shoes, shampoo and others. The destruction of additional goods will continue on Friday. (Dia a Dia)

Editor's Comment: Wow. I've seen all sorts of news stories over the years where Customs has seized this or that, but I don't think I've ever seen this - where they are actually destroying the seized counterfeit goods. Normally they just end up on Ave. Central on sale at a deep discount - no questions asked. This might be one more thing this government is doing right, that no one else has ever done in the past.
