PRD Politician Convicted Of Embezzlement And Sentenced To Four Years In Prison

CorruptionThe Sixth Criminal Court of First Judicial Circuit sentenced Mario Kennedy and Adolfo Montepeque to 48 months imprisonment for the crime of malicious embezzlement to the detriment of the Community Board of San Felipe. Kennedy is currently the elected Representative (in the Municipal government of Panama City) for the district of San Felipe. Furthermore, the judge's decision also prevents him from exercising public functions for the same period, after serving his prison sentence. The main sentence was 72 months in prison, and it will be reduced by one-third because they took an abbreviated process. In the hearing was held on 5 January 2012, the First Anti-Corruption Prosecutor, Rosa Elvira Pinzon, requested the sentence for both defendants. (Critica)

Editor's Comment: How is it possible for a journalist to write this article without including the simple detail of what political party Kennedy belongs to. I guess we're supposed to know already. Hold on, let me check (I'm betting PRD)... Yup, I was right, he's PRD. He was elected in May 2009 for the third time, which means he was also elected in 1999 and 2004 - so as of today he's been sitting in that position for more than twelve years. On 28 December 2009 the Comptroller of the Republic found "irregularities" in the handling of $441,592 dollars that had been assigned to the Community Board of San Felipe. The two others who are going to jail with him for this crime (Adolfo Montepeque and Viterbo Benavides) both worked in the community board and collaborated with him.

What happens to the money?
I assume he was asked to source the funds for that gold chain around his neck.
How much is missing?
If its all of it, then he will be doing paid time with benefits.
Thats a big part of the story I dont see.
