Media Restricted From Covering Martinelli At A Police Awards Ceremony

Panama NewsThe President, Ricardo Martinelli, this morning attended an event at the headquarters of the National Police (PN), in Ancon, which restricted access to media. According to the Public Relations Department of the PN, the Panamanian leader arrived at the event just after 8:00 am this morning. It was an award activity where Martinelli handed out medals to officials of security agencies who have been affected (injured) in the exercise of their functions and because of their injuries some are in wheelchairs. The activity was also attended by the Minister of Public Security, Jose Raul Mulino and the Deputy Minister Alejandro Garuz. The journalists who were at the headquarters of the National Police in Ancon waiting for the president were not allowed access. Martinelli arrived escorted by agents of the Institutional Protection Service. (Prensa)

Editor's Comment: Restricting media access to an awards ceremony? Just one more thing that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. So, this becomes the story, and not the cops who were injured in the line of duty. It's like they're afraid that if Martinelli gets near a reporter, he might whip out his Blackberry and try to fire the UN via Twitter or something... Whoever is handling Martinelli his appearances in the media does not have a clue, and should be fired. It's just one bungle after another after another after another. Things that should be simple.
