IDAAN Workers Sign Agreement With Government Authorities, End Strike
Officials of the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (IDAAN) and government officials smoked the peace pipe and signed an agreement ending the work stoppage that began from Monday July 9. Employees of the state agency had engaged in a nationwide strike, because in their march on Saturday July 7 there was no effort by the authorities to solve their problems. The director of the IDAAN Abdiel Cano, Minister for Canal Affairs Romulo Roux, who is also in charge of the Water Authority, and the union's general secretary IDAAN, Rafael Mejia, signed the agreement, in which was agreed among other things, the reinstatement of two dismissed officers and non-retaliation to workers. Editor's Comment: It seems to me like these IDAAN guys just wanted to make a statement. I really don't think any of them are in serious jeopardy of losing their jobs once the new Water Authority is created in law.
