Another Scandal Over Land Titles - This Time In Punta Chame

CorruptionAnabelle Villamonte, the former Director of Land Titling of the National Land Authority (ANATI) appears in another alleged land scandal, but this time in Punta Chame, as denounced today on the channel 2 TVN morning news broadcast by Don Winner, the editor of the www.panama-guide.com website. According to Winner, Villamonte gave free title to land to a company called Puntabeach Interprise, lots that formed naturally with sand banks, after the company created plans and found people to say their were the residents, in order to buy the Rights of Possession. Supposedly there was a resolution from the Corregiduría (Justice of the Peace) in Chame on the purchase. The resolution is dated 7 October 2011.

Winner said the scandal was discovered just two days ago when an American citizen, the owner of two lots on the South side of Punta Chame, was trying to sell one of his properties and a potential client came to see the land. According to Winner, the land was no longer limited on the South side by the sea - meaning the owner had access to the sea - but to everyone's surprise, there was a fence and an additional lot, which had formed naturally with banks of sand.

In investigating the matter, it was discovered, Winner explains further that the newly discovered lot, measuring 9,381 square meters, is being offered for sale on the Internet for $1.5 million dollars. Winner warns there are other lots in this same situation along the entire beach of Punta Chame.

The editor www.panama-guide.com was the first to report the disappearance of Americans in Bocas del Toro, killings to which William Dathan Holbert (also known as "Wild Bill) later confessed, who remains in prison in Chiriqui. (TVN)
