SINAPROC Issues Green Alert in Bocas and Chiriqui

WeatherBy DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Panama's National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC) has declared a "Green Alert" for the provinces of Bocas del Toro and Chiriqui, due to severe weather. One child has reportedly been killed. According to a press release from the entity, the Director General of the SINAPROC Arturo Alvarado said Saturday a "green alert" has been declared due to heavy rains that have fallen in the past 24 hours. Alvarado said people should only pay attention to the official alerts issued by the SINAPROC, distributed through their website and via television and radio networks, and not those sent over the Internet on the various social media networks.

Editor's Comment: Very often Twitter and Facebook can get the word out faster than the "official" notifications. There have been several instances of false message being distributed by people who just want to cause fear and panic, for whatever reason. So, if you see a warning or alert on one of the social networks, I would also advise that you take a minute to confirm that alert through an official source, if possible. There are all sorts of reports of heavy rain, local flooding, roofs blown off, trees down, power out - so try to stay off the roads if possible.
