963 People in Emergency Shelters in Bocas del Toro
After heavy rains in the province of Bocas del Toro and the flooding of the Teribe, Changuinola and Sixaola rivers, 963 people remain housed in different emergency shelters. Another 30,000 people were without clean drinking water for 38 hours, and 1,448 people were evacuated as a precaution. The National Civil Protection System announced that so far no homes have been destroyed. Sinaproc reported one eight year old child drowned when dragged by a rush of water as their family tired to cross the Pita creek. The Sinaproc lowered the alert level from Yellow to Green at midnight, in order to inspect the affected areas and to provide help to those who need it. (Estrella)
