Crime & PunishmentA jury declared Carlos Alberto Torres Hernández, alias “Calitín”, guilty for the murder and theft of the vehicle to the detriment of Jorge Herrera Ramos, which occurred in March 2006 on the bridge of Villalobos, in Pedregal. Manuel Salvador Garay Espinoza was also found guilty as a primary accomplice. Both were sentenced to 20 years in prison. On 27 March, the Second Court of Justice issued the acquittal for Humberto Pérez Bernal, Manuel Ardines and Eugenio Linares, the other suspects in this crime. The Fourth Superior Prosecutor determined that the murder was committed for the robbery of the taxi. Jorge Herrera Ramos was killed by a shot in the head, after being gagged and bound hand and foot. Editor's Comment: I covered this trial to point something out. The crime occurred in March 2006, and the sentence was handed down in July 2012 - more than six years later. All of you who are watching and waiting for justice in the Wild Bill and Javier Martin cases - take note. The Justice system in Panama is s l o w w w w w.
