PANAMAX 2012 Military Exercises Start This Week
More than 300 soldiers from the armed forces of Chile, Argentina, USA, Mexico, Colombia, from 12 other countries in the region will participate in the PANAMAX 2012 exercises from 6 to 17 August 2012. Jorge Yanis, Deputy Commissioner of the National Air Service (SENAN), said they would be developing doctrines to be followed by their soldiers to fulfill the mission of protecting the Panama Canal. Meanwhile, Robert Appin, of the the Southern Command of the United States, told TVN News the focus of the exercise on is how to react to a hypothetical scenario of terrorists who want to affect the free transit of the Canal. This version of PANAMAX also will also emphasize humanitarian aid in response to a natural disaster. (Panama America)
