Now 11 Confirmed Cases of H1N1 Flu Virus in Panama

HealthcareEleven positive cases of influenza A H1N1 have been reported in the capital city from January to date, as reported by Jorge Hassan, director of the Metropolitan Health Region. According to Hassan, it's not a worry because it's "just one more influenza virus." Hassan added they have conducted vaccination campaigns against influenza, but unfortunately not all people go. Health officials reiterated their call for people to go to hospitals and health centers to get the vaccine at no cost. Minister of Health, Franklin Vergara, says people should take preventive measures in order to avoid getting sick, and to take advantage of vaccination campaigns. In 2009, there were 813 cases of H1N1, of which 12 died from influenza. (Siglo)

Editor's Comment: What a great photo. That kid deserves a lollipop, and so does the nurse. If you want a flu shot, all you have to do is wander into any health center in the country and ask for one. They will hook you up before you can say "will this hurt much?" Hassan said the H1N1 is "just another flu virus" because the vaccine covers it - but there's no protection if you don't get the shot.

Approximately 61 million people contracted the H1N1 flu during the 2009 - 2010 pandemic. If you want to risk your health on wishful thinking and fuzzy thoughts about a "healthy immune system" then good luck with that. For the rest of us who live in the real world, getting a flu shot is still good advice.
