"Marta" Reached 5th of May Plaza This Afternoon
At about 2:35 pm the TBM Marta arrived at the 5th of May Plaza, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Ricardo Martinelli, officials of the Secretariat of the Metro and the Government. Recall that the Metro Line 1 will stretch 13.7 kilometers from Albrook to the Los Andes shopping center in the district of San Miguelito. This tunnel boring machine works day and night, every day of the week, with about 129 workers, at a depth of 25 meters. The excavations for the tunnel boring machine began last January 23 in the southern trench located in Albrook, where they have located 914 rings made up of pieces of concrete. It was reported that Marta will continue its work towards the area of El Marañon and the Santo Tomas Hospital until it reaches the El Carmen church on Via España. (TVN)
