New Law Promotes Natural Gas Fired Power Plants

Infrastructure UpgradesPresident Ricardo Martinelli signed Law 41 this Thursday, August 2, which establishes the regime of incentives to promote the construction and operation of power plants based on natural gas, for the provision of electric utility. Following the enactment of the law, according to a press release, the Panamanian government assumes through the National Secretariat of Energy to promote "the use of cleaner sources to diversify energy sources." It also seeks to mitigate the adverse environmental effects, and reduce the country's dependence on traditional liquid fuels. The rule seeks to promote the diversification of the country's energy supply and demand of electricity services to nontraditional sources for access to the community. (Prensa)
