Government Contractor Tries To Shut Down The "La Prensa" Newspaper in Panama

Panama NewsBy DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - The biggest news story going on right now is a conflict between the "La Prensa" newspaper and the owners of a company called Transcaribe Trading (TCT). Late last night a convoy of heavy vehicles and employees from the company arrived outside of the offices of La Prensa in an attempt to shut down the newspaper, and to prevent them from being able to publish today's print edition. This week the newspaper has been publishing a series of articles about the company, and the owners reacted. This morning workers from TCT returned with their vehicles, and the blocked Calle 12 de Octubre, in front of the offices of La Prensa. Riot police showed up at the scene, and as of right now the TCT workers reopened the street. I will be putting up the La Prensa reporting, as it's produced. And in fact, I'm still getting caught up on the details and background of the situation myself.
